Butterworth Discovery Park
As many of you may know, and unfortunately, have experienced, Clendenin, WV was one of several towns in WV that experienced historic flooding.
Our town has been devestated, and, we are gradually trying to recover and rebuild.
If you've been following us at all, you know that A Healthy Clendenin has been working on building Butterworth Discovery Park, on the lot of the former dentist office of Dr. David Butterworth, along the river. Prior to the flood, we had made significant progress in our construction of the park, and things were going well. Unfortunately, being along the river, the park was significantly flooded. However, with all things considered, we did not lose that much. We even kept some of our plants that we had put in.
Now, it is time for our cleanup. We have decided to move forward with the restoration of the park and with further construction, as we want to create a sanctuary in the town amidst the turmoil caused by the flooding.
We want a safe, fun place for our community to come when the stress of the flooding becomes too much (and when they just want a fun place to come).
We are working on figuring out where funding will come from for the rest of the building, but we are certainly not asking for any money. We would love, however, to have any pots/planters you are not using that you think might work well in our park. We plan to fill them with annual flowers to brighten up the park and make it a more beautiful place to come. We ask that you put the pots in the park behind the sign of the park.
Spread the word! Butterworth Discovery Park is here to stay!
